The Perry Fire Department had a busy Sunday responding to several fires.

Fire Chief Grason Hill says they had personnel setup to assist with a controlled burn when they received a page about an abandoned barn fire just before 1pm on Sunday in the 16000 block of J Avenue. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio Perry, Bouton and Minburn Fire Departments went to the structure fire where the landowner was burning brush and it got out of hand and started the barn on fire. Hill notes damage was done to the barn from the accidental fire, but the structure wasn’t a total loss. Perry First Responders, Dallas County EMS and Dallas County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene and no one was hurt in the incident.

Hill points out there was another fire that happened north of Perry later Sunday afternoon that also was from a controlled burn that got out of control and caught some hay bales on fire.

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for Monday, which means temperatures will be much higher than average for this time of year, into the upper 60s, with relative humidity falling to 15 to 20 percent and a south wind gusting between 20 to 30 miles per hour. Hill advises no one to burn when there is a Red Flag Warning. He adds this time of year the ground is so dry, any amount of fire will quickly spread.
