The Greene County Development Corporation (GCDC) Board met this past Tuesday.

The Board heard from Anna Folwell with KCG Development about the proposed 50 unit apartment project, located south of Ace Hardware. She said KCG is an affordable housing developer that utilizes the Area Median Income levels for reduced rental rates. Folwell noted that the site KCG is looking to build on has drainage issues, which they will rectify and that they use Section 42 of the US Department of Housing and Urban Development for their rates. She added that they are waiting for the final two readings to rezone the property from light industrial to multi-family residential before they can pursue applying for tax credits through the Iowa Finance Authority and develop final designs. 

GCDC Board member Chuck Offenburger said new websites are being developed for the Multi-Cultural Family Resource Center, as well as GCDC’s main website. He is also looking to establish eight committees, with about 100 volunteers once the new director is selected. GCDC Executive Director Ken Paxton added that two candidates have been selected for final interviews for the director position.

GCDC Board member John Rigler, III gave an update on the Ukrainian refugees that they are looking to re-establish in Greene County. He said four candidate families that have been put into the nationwide system with skills sets such as welders and truckers, among others. He pointed out the Iowa Nice organization in DeWitt is going to do the paperwork and then can host those families in Greene County. But volunteers are required before that can happen.
