A new department at the Greene County Medical Center has recently added a new service.

The pain clinic now has the ability to use Botox injections to provide relief for chronic migraine headaches as well as cervical dystonia. Dr. Keith Barnhill administers the injections and says this can help release muscle tension and relax the muscles associated with nerves that cause chronic migraine headaches for patients that experience these afflictions that last four to 15 hours or more several days per month.

Cervical dystonia is when the neck muscles contract involuntarily and can cause pulling or twisting of the head either side to side, forward or backward. Dr. Barnhill says Botox injections can also provide pain relief for these types of patients as well.

A referral from a primary care physician is required before a patient can be seen for these treatments at the pain clinic.
