ADMThe ADM softball team was rained out last night, and while the Tigers were looking to win their seventh straight game, they’ll have the chance to do that today in their Roland-Story tournament.

Even though his club wasn’t in action last night, we caught up with Rick Dillinger to ask him why ace Molly Jacobsen has thrown six consecutive complete game shutouts for the Tigers.

“If you look at pitching charts she’s been getting ahead of hitters which has been a key. That allows her to throw a lot of different pitches and when you’re behind it limits what you can and can’t do, which good hitters understand and can take better cuts at the ball.  I would say that has been her biggest strength (is early strikes), and you know, she’s more competitive, she’s more confident.  It’s a combination of a lot of different things and she’s just getting better.”

Looking at Jacobsen’s stats over the past few ballgames, they really are staggering.  She hasn’t allowed a run in her last 41 innings pitched, she’s only surrendered 10 hits over that span, and she’s struck out 73 opposing hitters.

Jacobsen will have the chance to stay in her groove this weekend.  As we said, the Tigers will play in four games during a tournament this weekend at Roland-Story.
