baseballThe ADM baseball team has dropped back to back conference games for the first time this season.

Heading into the Tigers’ ballgame against Carlisle tonight, Jason Book’s club suddenly has a 4-3 Raccoon River Conference record after their 5-0 loss to Perry on Wednesday night.

With ADM trying to break out of its small funk and set to play in arguably its biggest game of the 2014 season tonight against Carlisle, let’s get you a statistical look at how the Tigers fare amongst conference teams halfway through the year.

ADM’s .261 batting average as a team ranks seventh out of eight conference clubs.  The Tigers’ pitching staff has a 3.91 ERA through 17 games, ranking them sixth in conference.

That ERA statistic can be deceptive though, as ADM’s pitchers have combined to allow opponents to hit just .180 against them.  That mark is second best in the conference.

Individually, the Tigers have a couple of hitters ranking near the top of the conference statistically.  Logan Essy’s .457 batting average is fifth amongst conference hitters who have qualified with significant at-bats.  Grant Goeden’s .407 average is 11th.

Heading into the Tigers’ game against Carlisle tonight, the Wildcat names to look out for are Peyton Stephens and Spencer Jones.  Stephens leads Carlisle in hitting with a .457 average and is 10-for-10 in stolen base attempts.  Jones is the Wildcats’ main power bat–he leads his team with 12 RBIs so far in 2014.

We’ll see if ADM can slow down these two Wildcats this evening on K107.  First-pitch is scheduled for 7:30.
