The sixth week of the 2024 legislative session is the first funnel week.

Senator for District 12 Amy Sinclair says that funnel week is that point of time during the session where legislators cut down on the number of bills that they are working on passing. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio about what constituents will see during the week.

“Most of the bills that you’re going to see, if they’re going to be considered by the Senate, they will have been through that subcommittee process. The committees all will be meeting this week, and so any bill that is a policy bill that doesn’t make it through one or the other chamber, the House or the Senate, will no longer be eligible for consideration this year unless it deals with a taxing mechanism, or an appropriation. So taxing and spending.”

Sinclair mentions that the reason that taxing and appropriations are “funnel proof,” is because legislators have to wait to get the numbers back from the March Revenue Estimating Conference so they know how much money they have in the budget for the coming year.
