veterans affairsA bill was recently passed by Governor Terry Branstad that allows additional homestead tax credits to certain disabled veterans.

100% disable service-connected/dependency and indemnity compensation property tax exemption forms are now available for completion and submission to your local county assessor, along with a current Benefit’s Paid Letter, by no later than July 1st to receive the tax exemption for this calendar year.

The bill is retroactive to January 1st of 2014.  The newly revised Application for Disabled Veterans Homestead Tax Credit is also available.

A Benefits Paid Letter may be received by contacting the United States Veterans Affairs office at 1-800-827-1000 or by visiting the veterans affairs office in Des Moines, located at 210 Walnut Street.

An application is available through the Iowa Department of Revenue’s website at iowa.gov/tax, and the Iowa Department of Veterans Affairs website at va.iowa.gov or at the Greene County Assessor’s office.
