Iowa Representative David Young illustrates that work is being done to protect schools from tragedies in response to the January 4th shooting at Perry High School.

In light of the events that occurred at Perry Schools back on January 4th, Representative Young is actively working on bills to assist schools to review their safety policies. He details one bill in particular that puts the Department of Public Safety, Department of Education, and the Department of Emergency Management together to conduct a study on school safety standards on school construction. Young underscores how the three entities will be put into the state building code, and what things will be looked at.
“To make sure we look at things like emergency exits and entrances, and secure borders and school rooms, cameras, windows, those things like that. It’s unfortunate that we have to do this but we live in a world right now where this is happening and if it is, we’re going to protect our kids.”
Young says the bill will move pertaining to the Dept. of Public Safety, Education, and Emergency Management and report back to the General Assembly before proceeding further.
