A representative from the Dallas County Health Department zeros in on ways to stay healthy during the flu season.
During a conversation with Raccoon Valley Radio, Community Health Educator Natalie Peters discusses several preventative health measures.
“So, the first one being prevent contact with and the sharing of germs. So, during this respiratory season, be especially mindful of covering your coughs and sneezes with your elbow or a tissue. Also, wash your hands often and try to avoid touching your face. And make sure to stay home when you’re sick to keep the germs away from people as well.”
Peters offers suggestions to strengthen immune systems by eating a well balanced meal with fruits and vegetables, getting exercise, specifically about 150 minutes a week for an adult and 60 minutes per day for kids, and a good night’s rest (adults’ 7-9 hours and kids 8-16 depending on age).
