The AC/GC Chargers basketball teams hosted their second to last home games of the season Friday against the Pleasantville Trojans, and found split results.
The girls team got things started off fast, taking a demanding 24-7 lead in the first, and then outscoring the Trojans 13-2 in the second to head into the halftime break up 37-9. The third quarter is where the majority of the second half scoring occurred, as the Chargers continued the dominant performance by shutting out the Trojans, and putting up 27 points to go into the final quarter up 64-9. Both teams only scored 2 points in the fourth, and the game ended with a 66-11 victory for the Chargers. The team was led in scoring by Shay Lemke, who put up 16 points, several coming off some fast baskets in the opening minutes, and Becca Littler, who made a quiet 13 point showing.
The boys started their game with a closer score, ending the first quarter up 17-10, before being outscored 18-14 in the second and heading into the break up 31-28. The Chargers came back out and were outscored 14-13, keeping a 44-42 lead at the end of the third, but were outscored again in the fourth quarter, falling 62-57. Junior Mason Wahl some more minutes than usual, being brought in to help keep Pleasantville’s Dayson Leerhoff in check, and was able to keep the Trojan from moving inside the lane as well as he had been previously.
