A Grand Junction woman was arrested following a head-on collision in Polk County last week.
According to court documents around 5:23am on January 26th, 20-year-old Madilyn Van Pelt was traveling west on the eastbound ramp onto Interstate-235 when she collided head-on with another vehicle. Court documents show that the driver that was hit by Van Pelt suffered a broken leg.
Court documents state that a sheriff’s deputy that was called in to assist the Des Moines Police Officer, noticed several signs that Van Pelt was allegedly under the influence. Van Pelt admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages at a bar in Ankeny. Van Pelt submitted to a preliminary breath test that resulted in a 0.184 blood alcohol level, when the legal limit is 0.08. About an hour later, she gave another breath sample to the Data Master, which came back with a 0.145 blood alcohol level.
Van Pelt was charged with a Class D Felony for serious injury by vehicle-OWI and two simple misdemeanors for violating one-way traffic designation and unlawful use or non-operational ID card. She was booked and released from the Polk County Jail after posting a $5,000 bond. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
