A Jefferson man was recently sentenced to jail and probation for an October 2023 incident.

According to court documents, 27-year-old Joshua Parrish pled guilty to an aggravated misdemeanor for third degree criminal mischief and two serious misdemeanors for domestic abuse assault causing bodily injury and assault causing bodily injury. He had a two year prison sentence for the aggravated misdemeanor suspended and all but 14 days of 180 day jail sentence for each of the serious misdemeanors were suspended. The two 14 day sentences were to run consecutively for a total of 28 days. Parrish was then placed on probation for two years with the Iowa Department of Correctional Services.

The charges stemmed from an October 31st incident on an assault that took place in the 300 block of West Reed Street. While waiting to be booked into the Greene County Jail, Parrish caused damage to several items within a secured interview room.

Parrish was additionally ordered to pay over $1,000 in fines, surcharges, court-appointed attorney fees and court costs. As per the plea agreement, two simple misdemeanors for disorderly conduct and interference with official acts were dismissed.
