Dallas Center – Grimes girls wrestling competed in their super regional Friday in Des Moines, and DCG was able to find a winning result as they were able to have five qualify for the state meet. DCG will be sending Josephine Bond at 115, Asia Jahangir at 130, Bella Mulder at 135, Jenah Gray at 145, and Halley Beaudet at 190.

Jahangir was able to finish 1st at 130 going 3-0 on the day. She received a double bye, won via a fall in the quarterfinals, a 5-0 decision in the semifinals, and then won in the championship match 12-0 major decision over Layla Ewing of Moravia. The win was significant as Jahangir movs to 29-2 on the season.

Mulder was also perfect on the day winning at 135 with a 4-0 on the day with four falls to her name. She was able to record those all in the first period at 52 seconds, 47 seconds, 1 minute 12 seconds, and 1 minute 4 seconds in the championship match victory over Addision Hochstetler of North Tama. Mulder is now 27-4.

Beaudet finished 2nd at 190 with a 2-1 day, picking up two falls in the process before losing in the championship match 7-3 against Elaine Babcock of Pella. Jenah Gray finished 3rd after getting two byes, winning the quarterfinal match via a fall before losing in the semifinals. In the 3rd place match she was able to win via a fall over Annabelle Stelpflug of Iowa City High. Bond finished 4th in a good field, winning via a fall in the first round before losing in the quarterfinals. In the wrestle back, was able to pick up three wins to get to the 3rd place match, lost that, then was able to defeat Amelie Canales of Perry via a fall to make state.

Twenty-Five teams were able to compete in this tournament, with DCG as a team finishing 2nd only to Ankeny with 177 team points. Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont, Ames, and Ottumwa were able to round out the top 5.

Each wrestler knows their first round matchup. At 115, Bond will take on the 4th seed Taylor Strief of Bettendorf. At 130 Jahangir is the 11th seed and will face Abbe Gorham in the first round. Bella Mulder is the 5th seed at 135, and will be facing Katelyn Brandhorst of Woodward-Granger. At 145, Jenah Gray will face Luisa Meide of Cedar Rapids – Prairie in the first round. At 190 Halley Beaudet will be the 12 seed and face Taryn Boehmer of Mason City in the first round.

The tournament will be composed of four sessions with first round, second round, and first wrestlebacks to be 10 am – 3 pm on Thursday. The second session will be Thursday from 6 pm-9pm with 2nd wrestleback, quarterfinals, and 3rd wrestleback. On Friday morning from 10 am – 3 pm the semifinals and 4th, 5th, and 6th wrestleback all take place. On Friday night the championship matches, 3rd place matches, and 5th place matches take place.

The state meet will be taking place for the 2nd consecutive year at Xtream Arena in Coralville with the two day tournament to take place this Thursday and Friday. Raccoon Valley Radio for the 2nd straight year will be providing wall-to-wall coverage of the girls state tournament.
