Many individuals rushed out to donate blood after the horrific tragedy that took place at Perry High School on January 4th.
LifeServe Blood Center encourages people to donate blood as it can help save many lives yearly. That proved useful this year in wake of the shooting as blood stocked on the shelves were put into use for patients injured or deficient. January happens to be Blood Donor Month, and a question that is on a lot of people’s minds is what kind of blood is needed, but some don’t know which kind they have. Shay Willis, Director of Public Relations and Marketing at LifeServe, shares that this information can be determined.
“So if you do decide to donate blood with LifeServe, after that unit is collected it’s brought back to one of our labs where some additional tests are performed and one of those tests is blood typing. And so you will receive a card from us in the mail, we call it your donor card. It has a ‘I think’ a barcode, your name, and your blood type.”
