Senator Sarah Trone-Garriot responds to Governor Kim Renyolds’ decision to reject the summer EBT money.
Senator Trone-Garriot believes that the summer EBT money is good for the state of Iowa. The EBT money is federally funded for kids to allow them to eat in the summertime when schools are not in session. Senator Garriot details the benefits for students.
“It’s really efficient way. It’s $29 million from the federal government that will go to 244,000 Iowa kids. So that’s a lot of our state that’s going to get benefits, support, that help right where it’s needed.”
According to Senator Garriot, Governor Reynolds claims that other charities and nonprofits will be able to make up the difference, but Garriot retorts that statement with explaining that she’s heard from many charities and nonprofits are struggling and need every advantage that they can get.
