Monroe was the site of the 2024 Heart of Iowa Activities Conference wrestling tournament hosted at PCM High School on Friday night. Coach Kirk Davis’ Greene County Rams crowned two individual champions and finished second among eight teams. The conference title went to Roland-Story (Story City) with 190.5 points, followed by the Rams at 180, West Marshall (164), Perry 141.4, PCM 140, Nevada 121, South Hamilton (Jewel) 86, and Saydel (Des Moines). 78.
Winning titles for Greene County were senior Gavin Scheuermann at 157 lbs. and junior Brent Dennhardt at 165 lbs. Both are ranked fourth in Class 2A by IAWrestle. Scheuermann went 3-0 on the night and Dennhardt was 2-0. The trio of victories for Scheuermann put him over the century mark for his career at 101 wins. Dennhardt topped number six Logan Powers of R-S 6-3 in the finals after he trailed 3-2 in the third period. Dennhardt scored the final four points of the match.
Freshman Jaron Jacobs at 106 and junior Jacob Harmeyer at 126 finished in second place while junior Crew Conner at 138, senior Jackson Turner at 150, freshman Degan Miller at 175, and junior Marcus Ball at 215 all finished in third place. Fourth place finishes for the Rams came in from junior Gavyn Winters (113) senior Kolby Angell (132), and senior Zeke Binkley (144). All 11 Greene County entries placed fourth or higher.
The Rams have a triangular on Tuesday coming up in Manson at 6 p.m. with the host Cougars of Manson-Northwest Webster, along with CAM (Anita). Greene County is 10-7 in dual meets and has won four in a row.
