The city of Jefferson is looking to complete renovations of a main road through town.

At the most recent city council meeting in December was an update on the East Lincolnway resurfacing project. City Administrator Scott Peterson says the project would be to mill down two inches of concrete from Locust Street east to the Jefferson City Cemetery and more importantly improve the north side of East Lincoln Way between the existing street and the curb areas.

“What they would actually do there where the street hadn’t existed previously, you need to make sure you get a good base under that. So they’ll be pouring concrete slabs underneath that area and then pave over the top of the concrete then with asphalt.” 

Peterson says the city’s engineering firm, Bolton and Menk, are finalizing plans for the project and will hold some community meetings later this month to share those plans with mainly individuals who would be impacted in that area.

“In large part it’s an asphalt overlay project. But, especially out there on the east part of town we need to do what we can to always provide access to the homes and businesses that are out there. So that’ll be one of the main things is how you stage the project? And really look for alternatives about how we can best complete the project with minimal interruption.”   

The total cost of the project is $917,050 and Peterson adds general obligation bonds would probably need to be issued to pay for the project, which would go onto the city’s debt service levy. He anticipates the project to be completed this summer.
