An overnight house fire in rural Dallas Center claimed the life of one individual.
According to the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, 14 fire departments, three emergency crews and four law enforcement entities responded to the structure fire at 9:42pm on New Years Day at 20175 W Avenue in Dallas Center. During the incident, law enforcement found a female resident who was outside of the home and uninjured. She told authorities that she believed her husband was still inside the fully engulfed home.
The press release by the sheriff’s office says firefighters found 80-year-old Dennis Felt inside the home deceased. His body was taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. Due to the nature of the fire, the State Fire Marshal’s Office was also on scene as part of the investigation, which authorities believe the fire to be accidental in nature.
Among those entities that responded include Dallas Center, Perry, Adel, Minburn, and Bouton Fire Departments, along with Dallas County EMS. A full list of all the entities can be found below.
