A bipartisan bill that was done by one of Iowa’s congressional representatives was recently signed into law.
President Joe Biden signed the “Reserve Component Parental Leave Parity Act” into law on December 22nd. Iowa’s Third Congressional Representative Republican Zach Nunn and Democrat Representative Jeff Jackson from North Carolina co-led the legislation to allow for fathers and adoptive parents that serve in the drilling Reserve or National Guard parental leave when there is a newborn or an adoption happens in their families.
Nunn tells Raccoon Valley Radio it was a privilege to work on the bill and this will help all service members.
“But most importantly, it shows what Iowa can do on the national stage. Nobody else was looking at this bill (and) getting the opportunity to advance it forward really, I think is a reflection of good Iowans who were champions with us, who lobbied for it, who advocated for it, and told their stories. Iowans are going to have a better opportunity to spend time with their families and recognize the hard work and service of our military members and the sacrifice they give.”
This bill was part of the National Defense Authorization Act.
