The Stuart Fire Department recently was able to announce two pieces of good news.
Last month, there was a donation to the fire department of prepared hero fire blankets, which can be used to smother small fires, like what may occur when cooking on the stove, or in an accident with candles. The department was able to give out 12 of these blankets at their Small Business Saturday event, and thanks Stuart Resident Patrick Tiernan for making the donation. The department also presented the first Cliff Renslow Memorial Fire Scholarship, named after the former fire chief, and Avery Hazen, who has worked with the department since she was a junior firefighter, was the recipient.
