With temperatures making it feel like winter, and the first decent snowfall having come through, there are some habits that individuals may need to relearn or remember as the weather continues to change.

Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management Coordinator Bob Kempf says that after individuals get their emergency kits prepared for winter driving, there are other things that they can do to help make their chances of not ending up in an emergency situation better. He shares some tips with Raccoon Valley Radio.

“Sometimes it’s easier to travel in winter weather when it’s during the daylight hours. Making sure that you know your route, that you’re letting someone know the route that you’re taking, and the time you’re expected to arrive.”

Kempf adds that watching weather reports is also beneficial, as that will let you know what to expect when you’re out and about. He mentions that if there are ways you can think of to help yourself be better prepared for emergency situations, it’s always better to go ahead and make those preparations.
