With less than two months before the presidential caucuses happen in Iowa, sources say there’s been one clear-cut Republican nominee.
Former President Donald Trump has been the leading Republican candidate in every poll, most with double-digit leads over the next closest candidates. US Senator Chuck Grassley tells Raccoon Valley Radio that nothing is a guarantee until next March or later, but he believes Trump continues to be the forerunner for the Republican Party.
“But you can’t be certain of that because a lot of funny things happen along the way. If somebody else would catch fire it might cause people to look beyond Trump, if Trump gets into trouble in his court cases that could be a problem for him as well.”
Grassley believes the caucuses still play an important role for any presidential candidate.
“If you want to spend a lot of time in Iowa, you don’t have to spend a lot of money, and you’ve got a chance to show yourself your goods to the Republican voters and indirectly to the American voters. And it gives people a chance to be President of the United States.”
The Republican and Democratic Party Caucuses will be held in person on January 15th.
