Before the high school basketball season gets started, there has been a rule change that may look familiar.
After the previous season, the National Federation of State High School Associations decided to adopt a foul rule seen in women’s college basketball for both boys and girls high school basketball. Starting this season, there will no longer be one and one free throws based off fouls, only two free throws. The “bonus’ period, or when teams start to be awarded free throws, will begin after five team fouls by the opposing team, and the scoreboard will show a maximum of five team fouls per quarter, resetting once each quarter begins. Adair – Casey / Guthrie Center Girls High School Basketball Head Coach Brad Baudler says that once everyone becomes used to these new rules, he believes that they will be very welcome.
