Early Sunday morning there was a house fire in Paton.
Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams says that a call came in around 5:07am that a house at 506 Main Street in Paton was on Fire. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the two occupants of the home were able to evacuate safely, but that the blaze totaled the building, and heat from the fire caused some minor damage to the surrounding structures.
Williams mentions that an additional challenge that firefighters faced was water pressure issues caused by a broken water main in Boxholm, which has also caused the northeast corner of the county to be put under a boil order. He says that agencies that were on scene and helped with the fire were the fire departments from Jefferson, Churdan, Grand Junction and Paton, along with the Greene County Sheriff’s Office and Ambulance.
Williams adds that at this time, it is suspected that the cause of the fire was a wood burning stove, but that the incident is still under investigation. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
