Iowa Auditor of State Rob Sand’s office recently released their report on Guthrie County.

Sand’s office states that the County’s revenues totaled $19,612,679 for the year ending June 30, 2022, which was a 2.8-percent increase from the previous year. Expenses for the same fiscal year totaled $14,213,357, which is a 10-percent decrease from the previous year. It was found that the increase in revenues is primarily due to an increase in tax revenue, while the significant decrease in expenses is primarily due to a decrease in rock and sand inventory purchased in fiscal year 2022.

Sand reported seven findings related to the receipt and expenditure of taxpayer funds, including lack of segregation of duties, material amounts in accounts payable, prepaid expenses and infrastructure and capital asset additions not properly recorded in the County’s financial statements. Recommendations to address these issues were provided in the report, which can be found on the Auditor of State’s website.
