Greene County youth are encouraged to participate in a couple of programs next week when there is no school.

Greene County Extension 4-H and Youth Coordinator Samantha Hardaway says there will be two sessions of Books for Cooks for kindergarten through third graders happening next Monday. The first class is from 10-11:30am at the Churdan Public Library and the other session will be at the Greene County Extension Office in Jefferson from 2-3:30pm. Books for Cooks allows participants to make foods based on the theme of a book.

Hardaway says the other opportunity for youth is for fifth through eighth graders with Ricochet Camp next Tuesday from 10am-2pm at the Extension Office in Jefferson. Hardaway points out this is a leadership camp as she talks about the program.

“It doesn’t seem like leadership though, so don’t let that daunt you. It’s a lot of fun. We do a lot of fun activities about communication and leadership styles.”

Hardaway adds kids do not need to be in 4-H to participate in either Books for Cooks and Ricochet Camp, which are $5 per person and there is limited space available. Contact the Extension Office at 515-386-2138 or stop by to sign up.
