Greene County begins high school wrestling and basketball today for boys. It’s the first day of official practice for those sports, as well as boys’ swimming, which Greene County students travel to Carroll to participate in a sharing program.
Chris Nelson is the veteran head coach of Greene County boys’ basketball. The Rams most experienced varsity players are seniors Gabe Ebersole and Brynley Ruzicka. Senior Nathan Behne returns to the court after having his junior campaign reduced to just a few games due to tearing multiple knee ligaments in a game last December.
Kirk Davis is a veteran wrestling coach who moves into the head coaching spot for the Rams after recent seasons as an assistant. Former head coach Zach Beekman is now coaching on the middle school level, where he coached prior to spending the past five seasons as head coach. Junior Brent Dennhardt placed eighth at 145 lbs. at the Class 2A State Tournament in 2023, and senior Gavin Scheuermann has wrestled in State Tournaments all three previous seasons of high school. Gone are NCAA Division I wrestlers Kale Petersen and Mc Kinley Robbins, who are now an Iowa Hawkeye and Oregon State Beaver, respectively.
