This Saturday, the ADM cheerleading team is preparing for their very own state competition. While cheerleading may often be overlooked as a sport, it’s far more than just yelling and cheering from the sidelines. It involves a mix of tumbling, flips, and choreography that takes months of dedicated practice to perform in perfect harmony.

The 15 athletes of the ADM cheer squad have been on a journey that began all the way back in May when they first started their rigorous training. Since October, they’ve been competing in multiple competitions to fine-tune their skills and routines. These young athletes have managed to balance their cheerleading commitments with supporting the school’s football team, all while maintaining their dedication for their very own sport.

Their mantra, “always earn and never given,” has been a driving force behind their success this season. It embodies their hardworking spirit, reminding them that victories are earned through relentless effort and dedication, not handed out freely.

Coach K, who guides and supports her team, believes that to achieve victory at the State Championships, they must hit multiple skills as close to perfection as possible. This might mean holding planks for as long as they can. “We have to hit a zero deduction routine so what I mean by that is we have to hit all of our skills we have to execute them as high as we can the best to our ability so we can score high on that score sheet our goal this Saturday is going in and hitting a zero deduction routine as long as we hit our routine we have a solid chance at placing top three.”

The ADM cheer team has some high expectations to meet this year, as they secured a spot in the top three last season and are determined to replicate or exceed that achievement. While they aim for success, their approach remains focused.

As the team heads into the State Championships, they are determined to demonstrate their skills and routines flawlessly. Cheerleading may be often overlooked, but for the ADM cheerleaders, its a sport just like any other.
