The AC/GC Chargers are advancing to the Class A Quarterfinals, after defeating the Lynnville-Sully Hawks 29-8.
The Hawks played some tough defense in the first half, forcing a fumble on the Chargers first offensive drive, and forcing a turnover on downs on the second drive. This was the first game that the combined score for the first half was in the single digits, as the Chargers picked up a rushing touchdown, and went into halftime up 7-0. After the break, AC/GC dominated the field, forcing several punts and a couple interceptions on defense, and marching down the field on long drives offensively.
The team put up another 22 points, and kept the Hawks out of the Red Zone until late in the 4th, when some penalties allowed the Hawks to get some key 1st downs, and punch a score in, grabbing the 2-point conversion as well with 1 minute 15 seconds left on the clock. The Chargers will host the Madrid Tigers next week as they continue their postseason push, with hopes of heading to the UNI-Dome.
