The high school volleyball team at Paton-Churdan didn’t record any match victories, and the lone victory in a set didn’t happen until the last match of the season, but Activities Director Annie Smith talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about the progress the squad made and the effort in by Coach Makayla Spaar and the girls. Short on numbers and even shorter on varsity experience, A.D. Smith said the girls, mostly freshmen and sophomores, took on a different mindset knowing most matches in 2023 would be against juniors and seniors.

“They had to train themselves on not giving up, learning how to work together, and trying to find their groove, and they did that.” A.D. Smith went added, “You won’t see that in any article, or score, or on Bound (stats website), but also what you won’t see on paper is when we turned around and played those kids, plus our JV kids against teams our own age, freshmen and sophomores, we competed, and we won, and did a great job!”

Smith believes with continued hard work and belief in themselves, the future of P-C volleyball will be on the upswing.
