Iowa State Auditor Rob Sand recently released a report on the Diamondhead Lake Rural Improvement Zone.

In the report, Sand says that the RIZ’s receipts totaled $2,060,562 for the year ending July 30, 2023, a 726.4-percent increase from the previous year. The disbursements for the year ending at that same time totaled $1,122,106, a 262.4-percent increase from the previous year. The significant increase in receipts was found to be primarily due to note proceeds of $1,098,600 and insurance proceeds of $620,957 during the fiscal year ending June 30, 2023. The increase in disbursements was due to equipment purchases for the ongoing dredging project. Sand reported one finding related to receipts and disbursements, addressing questionable disbursements.
