The Greene County School District received an edible honor Tuesday with a visit from a state-elected official.

State Auditor Rob Sand personally delivered a freshly baked apple pie to Greene County Schools Superintendent Brett Abbotts and School Board member Steve Fisher because the school district was recently announced as the Best Performing 3A School District using Sand’s Public Innovations and Efficiencies (PIE) program. Sand talked about how Greene County Schools best exemplifies the essence of his PIE program, which includes a checklist of different ways governmental entities can save tax money and improve efficiencies.

“The whole idea here is constant improvement. You want to have the ability for your public entities to come in every year and take a look at a list of things that’s going to save them money. And if each year they can add another one or two to the ones that they’re doing, then you’re getting better and better as time goes on, saving more and more money, and that’s good for taxpayers, that’s good for everybody.”

This was the first time the Greene County School District was recognized as a PIE winner for being the top performing Class 3A school district.
