With National Prescription Take Back Day coming up, the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office is giving advice and an opportunity to dispose of unwanted prescription drugs.

Dallas County Sergeant Ray DIrksen says the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) puts on the National Prescription Take Back Day twice a year in October and in April to promote getting rid of expired or unused medications so they don’t fall into the wrong hands. Dirksen explains that they have an easy way for people to come by their law enforcement center and dispose of their unwanted drugs in a confidential manner.

“Other locations and law enforcement agencies across the state. They have what they call drug drop off boxes. Dallas County Sheriff’s Office we have one right in our front doors. Although we will not be present at the front door on the 28th, our dropbox is there for 365 days a year, anytime, day or night. You can come in, drop your medications off at that drop box, no questions asked.”

Dirksen also reminds people to not flush their unwanted or expired medications down the toilet because it can pollute the water system.
