Certified enrollments for the school year have been released.

Greene County School District Superintendent Brett Abbotts says the total enrollment for the 2023-24 school year is 1,182.3, which was about a 2.7 student decrease from last year at 1,185. The fraction of a student is due to different formulas for certain categories of how students are officially counted. As for open enrolled out of the district, Greene County had 86 compared to last year of 79. The open enrollment into the district saw a huge jump from 59 last year to 71 this year. Abbotts is pleased with the district overall being steady with its enrollment and he talks about some of the extra lengths they went to.

“We did do some different phones with some of our kids who open enrolled out to see one, how they were being supported in their other district and reminding them of the different opportunities and some of the changes that we’ve made in this school district. Kind of extending our hand out to see if we could welcome them back and we were able to land a few families back which definitely helped there a little bit. So steady and stable for enrollment is really nice.”

As for the Paton-Churdan School District, Superintendent Kreg Lensch says the total enrollment for this year was 188.20, which was a slight increase compared to last year at 186.70. Those students that enrolled out of the district were 54 this year, which was a decrease of four compared to last year at 58. The number of students that open enrolled into the district was 45 last year and this year was 44.

The certified enrollment is what the state uses for its per pupil funding that is allocated to each school district for its general fund for the following school year.
