The Adair – Casey and Guthrie Center School Boards met in regular session last Wednesday, October 18th.

The Boards approved open enrollment, resignations and contract recommendations, and a public purpose policy for the student activity fund. AC/GC Superintendent Josh Rasmussen says that both Boards also discussed a school safety assessment review, long term planning for capital projects, and the AC/GC Activities Handbook. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that they both also discussed a Revenue Purpose Statement that would be on the ballot for the November elections.

“We’re taking a look at our SAVE dollars, so our Secured and Advanced Vision of Education. It was formerly known as the State Penny Tax. This just gives the Board and both schools, kind of outlines how we’re going to use that money. It doesn’t raise taxes for any of our taxpayers, we’re going to pay the penny sales tax no matter what. It basically just grants the school permission to use that for things like our technology, just kind of buildings and grounds, those types of purchases.”

Rasmussen mentions that the Boards then discussed upcoming dates, and approved a resolution authorizing payments, School Budget Review Committee modified allowable growth for Learning English Proficiency allowable costs, a representative for the Iowa Association of School Boards Delegate Assembly and the 2023-24 School Improvement Advisory Committee. The Adair – Casey School Board also approved a special education contract with the Woodward-Granger School District, before both Boards entered a closed session for the superintendent evaluation.
