Greene County ISU Extension is offering a class from Annie’s Project and Women in Ag Series.
The Grain Marketing for Women is a five-session course designed specifically for women and will cover topics such as basis, futures, carry, contracts and hedging in the marketplace; along with other strategies and tips to shop around for the best market prices for grain. Greene County ISU Extension Farm Management Specialist Alexis Stevens is going to lead the class and she says this program is critically important for women in all sectors of agriculture, but specifically farm wives.
“A lot of times we see that the husband is out there doing the producing, he’s doing the labor, but the women are the ones that are doing the accounting, they’re doing the bookwork, they’re doing the payroll. And so this is just a real easy segway into doing the grain marketing as well. And the fun thing is that I will teach the women in the class and they’ll learn the tools, and then they’ll, and then they’ll go home and tell their husbands what they learned, and the husbands can then apply that.”
The classes will be on Monday and Wednesday evenings from November 1st through the 15th from 6-9pm, with a meal served at 5:30pm at the Extension Office in Jefferson. The cost to participate is $75 and scholarships are available for high school girls to take the program for free if they are at least 16 years old. Click here as registration needs to be completed online and by the deadline of Wednesday, to ensure there is enough materials and food for each meal.
