Dallas Center-Grimes will look to close out the football season with postseason implications in the final week.
The Mustangs are tied for second place with Glenwood with a (3-1) district six record. They control their own destiny when they take on Lewis Central (6-2) who is undefeated in district play (4-0). So if the Mustangs win they will have a shot to collect an automatic qualifying bid, and if they lose they’ll have to hold their breath for one of the four at-large bids to make the playoffs. Dallas Center-Grimes enters this matchup with a (4-4) overall record after collecting a bounce back win over Winterset (31-10) in week 8. DCG Head Football Coach Scott Heitland believes his team put together one of their best performances in all three phases last week.
“This was a really, really good game when you look at all three phases and how we performed. Got to clean up the penalties a little bit. But yeah, I couldn’t have asked for a better game to send us into week nine with quite a bit on the line.”
Heitland says that his team had a goal of playing in a playoff game at the beginning of the season. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that they have to go out and play hard for all four quarters to turn that goal into a reality against Lewis Central.
“I think the thing that’s hurt us the last couple of years against them has been slow starts, and (Lewis Central) jumping out to a quick 14 or 17 point lead and then having to play from behind like that. It just takes you out of your game plan. It starts to press you a little bit and the play calling, it starts to press you a little bit on the chances you’ll take on defense, because you’re trying to stem the tide a little bit.”
Dallas Center-Grimes will take on Lewis Central at 7pm from LC Football Field in Council Bluffs. For those who cannot attend can listen live on our KDLS-2 mobile stream which can be found on our website.
