Both the Perry boys and girls will compete in their state qualifying meet tomorrow at Pella Sports Park in Pella. I had a chance to sit down with girls cross country coach Megan Maylum, as she talked about the importance of mental toughness and mindset at this point in the season.

“It’s a huge mental game. At this point, the runners have put in all of the work they can to be aerobically prepared to prepare their bodies. So now it’s more about preparing their minds and their mindset for feeling pain. I talked to them about feeling pain for a short time and trusting their body to be able to withstand that pain and that it’s worth it. I’m encouraging them to just leave it all out there on the  course. They have prepared all they can and now they just have to trust their bodies to get them there,” Maylum said.

The meet will begin at 4 PM tomorrow at Pella Sports Park. Like usual I will provide results after the meet and keep you informed on state qualifying times for the Jayettes right here on KDLS and on our website at raccoonvalleyradio.com.
