For the first time all season, the Perry football team won the turnover battle last Friday night, finishing a plus three after forcing three Atlantic turnovers.  It was a positive sign of hope for a defense that had created just four turnovers through the first six weeks combined.

“We are really focusing on a bend, don’t break type of defense,” stated first year Head Coach Tyler Hovey.  “If we don’t break and give up the big play, we have an opportunity for turnovers to come our way.  We didn’t necessarily work a lot of turnover circuits or anything like that, but more just trying to put an emphasis on breaking to the ball and getting your feet in the right position to make a play.”

Kain Killmer and Jorge Rameriz each recovered a fumble while Geren Kenney picked off a Zayden Parker first half pass.

“I think our guys are discovering that if they get to the right spot on each play, they have a chance to take the ball away.  I thought we had our best defensive effort of the season last week and I hope we can follow up with the same type of effort this week.”

Perry will host Knoxville at 7:30 Friday night.  You can listen to the game with Shawn Kenney on KDLS and streaming at raccoonvalleyradio.com.
