Tonight’s Class 2A District 8 football game between Greene County and Des Moines Christian has both a lot riding on it, and a lot of uncertainty as well. Coach Caden Duncan’s Rams are 3-4 overall and 1-3 in the district while the Lions are 3-4 as well, but 2-2 in district play. Tonight’s contest is on the artificial turn at DMC in Urbandale with coverage at 6:30 p.m. and kickoff at 7 o’clock on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
There are two certainties about this game and one of those is Greene County will miss the playoffs for the first time since 2017 if they don’t win. The other is DMC is in the playoffs with the number three seed from District 8 if they win. After that, it comes down to how many points the Rams would need to win by, and how Southeast Valley (Gowrie) does in Carroll vs. Kuemper Catholic. The Knights have already wrapped up the number one seed with Roland-Story (Story City) securing the second spot. A three-way tie for the last two playoff berths from District 8 is possible between the Rams, Lions, and Jaguars, but a Greene County victory is a must for that to happen. The Iowa High School Athletic Association has a tie-breaker formula it uses in case of a three-way tie.
