Greene County and Paton-Churdan had conference volleyball matches last night and the Rams also ran cross-country on Thursday.
The running Rams were at Saydel High School in Des Moines and Coach Jeff Lamoureux said conditions were good with cooler temperatures. The boys from Greene County were sixth among nine teams while the girls did not have enough runners for a team score. Leading the Rams on the boys’ side was Noah Hinote was 14th in 18:11, followed by Gavyn Winters, 32nd in 18:44, Brady Carstensen, 38th in 19:13, Kolby Angell was 46th in 19:48, and Carter Hinote, 49th in 19:56.
Becca Anderson, finished 31st in 23:31, and Evelyn Snyder was 53rd in 25:52. The coach said he felt having a meet Tuesday hurt a bit on Thursday with legs being a little tired. The Rams run Monday in Jefferson on the Middle School grounds at the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference meet.
Greene County volleyball improved to 13-10 overall and 4-2 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference with a win at Saydel (1-18, 0-6). Coach Chris Heisterkamp’s Rams won 25-10, 25-16, 25-8, prompting the coach to say her team had good energy and made quick business of another conference win. The Rams have just one HOIAC match left, and an upper division finish in the league is guaranteed. Emma Shipley led in kills with 11, followed by nine from Kaylee Stalder, and four by Payton Kokenge. Graci Cooklin and Hailey Carman each had five digs with four from Stalder and three by Emma Ewalt.
P-C fell to 0-10 in matches and 0-30 in sets with three straight losses in Anita to CAM by scores of 11-25, 5-25, 12-25. Coach Makayla Spaar reports Ella Tasler had 10 digs and Hailey Hoyle had two service aces. No P-C player had more than one kill.
The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union has released pairings for upcoming regional tournaments. Greene County is in Class 3A and opens on Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. in Van Meter vs. the host Bulldogs. Paton-Churdan opens on Oct. 16 in 1A at Colo vs. Colo-NESCO at 7 p.m.
