AC/GC Marching Band at their competition in Creston last year
The Adair – Casey / Guthrie Center High School Marching Band traveled to Carroll September 30th, and put up some strong scores.
Band Director Kyra Babcock tells Raccoon Valley Radio that they competed in Class 2A, and faced some tough competition.
“This year the band has scored the highest it’s scored in a very long time. So out of 120 points, we came with 95. We also ended up taking third place in Class 2A. We actually tied with the second place band, which was Woodward-Granger. Roland – Story was our first place in Class 2A, and they were only ten points away from us. Roland – Story also took the overall best band of the entire day. There were eleven bands total, so it kind of tells you how difficult Class 2A is in marching competition. We are up against the toughest band in the entire competition, so being only ten points away is phenomenal.”
Babcock points out that senior and drum major Andrew Mahaffey really helped the ensemble to shine, as he received a perfect score for his category, and AC/GC was able to outperform some larger ensembles.
