Iowa State Auditor Rob Sand made a stop in Dallas County as a part of his 100 Town Hall Tour on Tuesday.
Sand got a chance to talk to a small group at Caboose Park in Perry. He discusses his Public Innovations and Efficiencies (PIE) that encourages governmental entities and school districts to develop creative ways to save tax dollars. He said over 500 entities took part in the program including cities of Redfield, Perry, Dexter, DeSoto, Bouton and Dallas County Community Services. Sand told Raccoon Valley Radio that a common question he is getting is regarding Senate File 478 that went into effect. He said this will limit his access to someone’s personal information during an audit.
“You know, I just keep saying to folks, even though this new bill is going to hurt our ability to conduct oversight, we are still going to try to do our job. And if they get it they tell us that we can’t look at some documents that we are going to tell the public about. So we’re going to make sure that they are informed as well.”
Sand also answered questions about the school voucher program, and the limited oversight private schools will have while receiving taxpayer money. Sand said he only has one more townhall left before he completes all 100 which is in Newton on October 10th.
