The students in the Adel community had a day off school so most of them spent the morning looking at service trucks on Friday.
The Adel Public Library held an event called “Touch a Truck,” at the city hall parking lot which allowed many city and county services to bring their vehicles and equipment while giving the community permission to get close to them. Library Outreach Coordinator Jessica Delp said in past years they took a break from this event because of the pandemic and other factors. Delp mentioned they thought this was a perfect event because the Adel-DeSoto-Minburn School District did not have school.
“ADM did not have school today, and so we just wanted to do something that drew the community together. We have beautiful weather. I’m so thankful to our fire department and our Dallas County EMS (Emergency Medical Services) and our city and just all the other people who came around to touch a truck today.”
The Adel Police Department had a presence at the event. They showed off their police cruiser to all the children and parents. Sergeant Bryce Deeth talked about how valuable these events are to their department.
“Events like this are perfect for us to come out, let kids see everything, you know, educate some of the parents as well on all the equipment that we have in these cars, which is amazing. You know, we carry a lot of stuff that a lot of people don’t see on a normal day to day basis. And events like this are fantastic for us to get out here and let the community see us in a better light, and give out a lot of stickers to the kids.”
During the event, there was a firetruck, garbage truck, emergency medical vehicle, dump truck, buses among others.
