There’s just two regular season football games remaining for the Greene County Rams and Coach Caden Duncan’s team needs two wins to guarantee the program’s sixth straight winning season and to ensure one of the four playoff berths from Class 2A District 8. For just the second time in Coach Duncan’s tenure, the Rams have dropped back-to-back games, the latest being a 62-31 loss last night in Story City to Roland-Story. The Norsemen are 4-2, 2-1, while the Rams fell to 3-3, 1-2.
The teams combined for over 1,000 yards of offense and unofficially the passing duo of Gabe Ebersole and Jack Hansen went where no quarterback and receiver for the Rams have gone before. Ebersole throw for 441 yards and Hansen caught passes for 317 of that total. Hansen had touchdown receptions of 49, 72, and 38 yards. Camden Strennen ran three yards for a score and kicker Nathan Behne booted a 32 yard field goal on the last play of the game. Behne was four of four on extra points kicks. Unofficially, the Rams had 579 yards of offense and the Norsemen also topped the 500 yards mark.The Rams coaching staff will watch film to verify the numbers.
R-S scored nine touchdowns and led 21-0 early in the second quarter and 49-21 at intermission. Hesston Johnson had scoring runs of 2, 80, and 32 yards. Jonovan Wilkinson had a 52 yard punt return for a TD, a touchdown run of three yards, and TD catches from Boaz Clark of 40 and 24 yards. Freshman Fiston Carlson added scoring runs from 68 and 13 yards.
The last scheduled home game of the season is next week at Linduska Field. in Jefferson. The Rams host Southeast Valley (Gowrie) in Class 2A District 8 action on Senior Night. The Jaguars (4-2, 1-2) have completed the home portion of their schedule and have the Rams and the district leading Knights of Kuemper Catholic on the road to round out the regular season. SEV won 51-7 in Gowrie on Friday night vs. Saydel (Des Moines). The Oct. 6 game will be broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
