The Perry High School students have chosen their theme, and are ready to start homecoming week.
The Bluejay students will celebrate a “Hollywood Homecoming,” which will be reflected on their special dress up days at school. For Monday the students will dress up as their favorite movie character or actor, then on Tuesday they will dress up as a famous musician, the students will dress up in comfortable clothing to volunteer while supporting a sports team on Wednesday and at the end of the week students will dress up as twins on Thursday and on Friday they will wear their designated class shirt. Senior Kaylee Wuebker talks about the process of coming up with these dress up days during homecoming week.
“We met at the end of the previous school year and we kind of talked about what theme do we want and the idea of Hollywood got brought up and then we kind of developed like, ‘oh, you could do movie stars and music and just try to incorporate everything that Hollywood is’. But it takes a lot of planning at the end of the year, then into the beginning of this year.”
Perry High School will have a busy day on Wednesday. There will be a parade from 18th to Willis starting at 6pm, the junior class will have their cookout fundraiser from 6 to 8pm in the high school parking lot and the pep rally and coronation will start in the gym at 8pm. Senior Kaitlyn Leber says that volunteer day is another special activity they have on Wednesday.
“Volunteer Day is a big day that everybody looks forward to on Wednesday. We do all sorts of things throughout the community. We go to the Raccoon River Pet Rescue, we go to the churches and help out there. We also do highway pickup. Everybody has something to do on that Wednesday and everybody looks forward to it.”
Additionally, the homecoming week will end with the Friday football game when Perry takes on Nevada at Duey Field with kickoff at 7:30pm. That game will be broadcasted live on 94.3 and 99.7 FM or 1310 AM. For schedule linked here. Homecoming-2023-Agenda-1
