The Perry Bluejays fell on the gridiron again Friday night to the Storm Lake Tornadoes 56-31. The Bluejays traveled up to Storm Lake with the hopes of getting back to .500 on the season with a win. Instead, the loss drops them to 1-3 on their 2023 campaign. The passing attack for the Tornadoes posed major problems for the Bluejay secondary in the first half as the Tornadoes took a 28-10 lead going into the locker room. Senior quarterback Carson Lullman had three touchdown passes to go along with a touchdown scramble in the first half for Storm Lake to provide them with the early cushion. After trailing 28-3 with less than 2 minutes to play in the first half, Perry finally got some momentum on their side with a touchdown before going into the locker room. They trailed 28-10 as opposed to 28-3 going into the halftime break.

The second half was more of the same for Storm Lake as they opened the second half with a kick return for a touchdown that opened their lead up to 35-10 early on in the third quarter. Carson Lullman continued his dominant performance through the air for Storm Lake as he threw 3 more touchdown passes to round out his 6 touchdown pass performance on the night. Wide receiver Cam Boyd and David William were big weapons on the receiving end for the Tornadoes as the game went on. It was a concern coming in for Perry head coach Tyler Hovey that Perry would have to find a way to slow down the Storm Lake passing attack. However, the Bluejays was searching for answers to the passing game all night. The Perry offense did get going more in the second half as they put up three touchdowns to make the score a little closer. Geren Kenney ran one in for a score as well as completed a deep pass to TE Eric Lagos who got passed a couple of Storm Lake defenders.

It was a strong outing for the hometown Tornadoes on homecoming night as they pulled out the victory. Perry will look to bounce back next week for their own homecoming game against the Nevada Cubs.
