Greene County Community CenterThere are two programs starting this weekend for Greene County area youth to get involved in.

Jefferson Parks and Recreation Director Vicky Lautner says their annual archery classes will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:30-2pm from June 10th through July 17th.  She states that its for youth ages 10-14 years-old.  The classes will be taught by Don Orris and Skeeter Wilber at 1108 West Adams Street in Jefferson with a $25 fee.  She adds that fee doesn’t include the optional Iowa Games Archery contest that kids can sign up for during July 19th and 20th with an additional $20 charge.

Lautner points out that a program will help teach kids about golf.  A youth golf instruction and league will be on Wednesdays from 9am-noon at the Jefferson Community Golf Course from June 11th through July 30th.  She comments that the participants will get a 3-minute lesson and then play nine holes of golf with a $30 fee.

She talks about the benefits of offering unique opportunities for kids like having a golf program.

“I think golf is something that once you pick it up, it’s something you do for a lifetime.  It’s not an easy sport but it’s something that even older people can do and it’s a fun thing and it’s a good way to socialize also.”

The deadline to register for the gold program is by Wednesday, June 4th.

Call the Greene County Community Center at 386-3412 to sign up.
