A Grand Junction man was recently sentenced to prison for attempted murder.

Greene County Attorney Thomas Laehn tells Raccoon Valley Radio 31-year-old Adam Coy was sentenced to a maximum of 36 years in prison on Friday. A jury found Coy guilty on July 24th on three counts, including a Class B Felony for attempted murder, a Class C Felony for willful injury resulting in serious injury, and a serious misdemeanor for domestic abuse assault causing bodily injury. Laehn says the attempted murder conviction has a mandatory prison sentence of 25 years, the C Felony had a maximum sentence of ten years, while the serious misdemeanor was a max of one year in prison. Laehn adds District Court Judge Kurt Stoebe ordered the sentences to be served consecutively.

The charges stemmed from an incident on February 4th. The Greene County Sheriff’s Office began an investigation after Grand Junction Rescue responded to a call that someone fell and hit their head against a door at 9:52pm at 1002 Main Street East in Grand Junction. The sheriff’s office was advised of a possible gunshot wound. During the investigation, the sheriff’s office determined that Coy intentionally discharged a firearm in the direction of the victim with the intent of killing her. The bullet struck the back of her head, but she survived.

According to court documents, Coy was also ordered to pay over $2,000 in fines and surcharges.
