The Perry Elementary School Nutrition Staff are thrilled with the new addition to their workspace.
In October of 2022, the Perry School Board approved a $1.6 million dollar remodel of the Perry Elementary School kitchen that was built in 1991. The project was completed before students entered the building for the fall semester. Nutrition Services Director Meladee Steele says this renovation has included a larger area for food preparation along with storage and an enclosed serving area that is separate from the commons area. Steele says this improvement was needed after the Perry Elementary School attendance kept growing year after year and their space kept shrinking.
“It’s gone from a closet to an actual room, as far as the space.”
Steele says one of the best features is the refrigerators being moved from the outside of the building to now inside.“During the winter, people would have to get their hats and boots and coats on to go out to the freezer to get something if they needed something more. So now it’s all inside access.”
Steele also mentions that she has noticed a big difference in the type of service for the better they have been able to offer students with this new renovated kitchen.
